2001 Reading Observations
BAD*************************************************************************
I’m capable of completing a book every 3-4 weeks. I started reading the Lavyle Spencer book back in the early part of April 2001. It took me several months to complete it. In short the book wasn’t fun. I could’nt get involved with the characters and storylines. It was a dishwater dull book. It was too tedious. I hated the characters etc. There was no since of fun or adventure. I can’t believe she has a following. Thank goodness this was the last book she ever wrote! I read the book because I like the book on tape version of this book she wrote about a country singer who comes back to her hometown it was good. I believe the book was called Hometown Girl. One day I found the book, “Then Came Heavan”, on my shelf and decided to read it because I liked her book on tape of Hometown Girl. Damn, the Doubleday book club for hawking such trash and sending it my way!!
I had’nt picked up a book to read since July because Ms. Spencer’s trite prose made me hate reading!!! Damn her to hell!!! Damn the Doubleday Book club too!!!!
Lavyrle Spencer is now on my do not read list along with that evil hellspawn who writes those damned books about a cat who solves mysteries!!! I hate those Cat Who....books. Those cat books were a painful chore to get through. I hope she burns in hell for writing such nonsence!! Even though I’m Wiccan and don’t believe in hell Ms. Spencer and that chick that writes the Cat Who...... books ought to be there!!!!!!

In September/October I wandered into a bookstore and picked up two Harry Potter books. They were on sale so I figured I would give them to my nephew because he’s a kid etc. and I would be completing my Christmas shopping early. Anyway I heard that a movie version of the books was coming out. So I decided what the heck might as well give it a read. It’s a children’s book so it won’t be painful to read like “Then Came Heavan”. Besides, when the books first came out the people over at the children’s writing group were raving about Ms. Rowling’s books. It was necessary homework for a future children’s book writer/illustrator like myself. I absolutely adored the books and devored them up! I can’t wait until I receive the next two book from Amazon.com. I do admit that I’m a little frightened of reading “Goblet of Fire” which clocks in at around 700 pages. However, if it’s anything like Ms. Rowling’s other two book I should have no time at all flying through them.
In December I saw Lord of the Rings it was good. I so want to be Aragorn’s bitch or anything else of his! I also am ordering the Lord of the Rings books along with the Hobbit. I am aware that J.R.R. Tolkien does go on a bit. The Ring books clock in at around 1,000+ pages. I don’t care I’m willing to give it a try. Besides the 1,000 pages is divided between 3 book which I imagine average at around 300 pages each. The first or prequel book in the series is The Hobbit. I understand that it is basically a children’s book. Since it’s a children’s book I should have no trouble getting through it.
For next years reading list I’m including some of the book that I did not get through thanks to that Spencer woman!! Also I will be including the Tolkien books and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books The Prisoner of Azkar and The Goblet of Fire as they arrive.

Underboss Peter Maas 01-29-01
Took a long time to comple. It was very good. Read it off and on. I believe I started reading this book in August of 2001. It was one of the books I got at Rite Aid near the Mechanic theater when they were selling books without the covers on them. I believe this practice is illegal. Anyway, despite it taking a long time for me to complete the book was very good. I believe it had over 500 pages. This would be the longest book I ever read.
Blanche Among The Talented Tenth Barbara Neely 02-6-01
This was a good quick read. I purchased this book from Amazon.com This was the second Blanche book I ever read. Neely is a good writer I think I will complete the Blanche series. It turns out the hansome light skinned guy who wants her is the killer.
Time Piece Richard Paul Evans 02-13-01
Extremely good book and writer. Despite it not being a mystery per se. It held my attention. When I started reading it I could not put it down. Will read more work by this writer. I originally bought this book at Rite Aid where they were selling books without there covers which I believe is illegal. I bought it and a host of other coverless books after I saw a show at the Mechanic
What’s A Girl Gotta Do? Sparkle Hayter 03-02-01
This is the second book by SparkleHayter I ever read. The first one I read was, What’s a Girl Gotta Do? Loved this book! The writing was snappy and upbeat. It was not a labor to read. Will read more of the Robin Hudson mystery series.
Zorba The Hutt’s Revenge Paul and Hollace Davids 03-14-01
Despite it being a children’s book it was interesting to read
The Demon Seed Dean Koontz 03-26-01
This was the very first Koontz book I ever actually read. When I had a library card I would get audio versions of his books. This book was very good. It was not a labor to read. If I could find more of books that did’nt have a lot of pages in them. I think I will give it a try. Maybe try to complete reading all the Koontz books print and audio version.
Then Came Heavan Lavyrle Spencer 07-20-01
Long time to complete. Uninteresting characters. Thank God she retired from writing. This was the most boring book that I have ever read, I thought it would be interesting. It was about a nun who fell in love with the church handyman. I was expecting hot forbidden sex scenes. Instead I have this boring long winded waste tripe where nothing ever happens. Death to Lavyrle Spencer!!!
Harry Potter and The Sorcer’s Stone JK Rowling 11-16-01
Tres bon! This was a good fast read by a good writer. The mark of a good writer in my opinion is whether or not he/she holds my attention and makes me want to read more. Rowling definetely does that and more
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets JK Rowling 12-03-01
Another good book by Rowling! So far this one is my favorite in the series. Heck, Rowling does Star Wars better than Lucas could ever imagine! I like that in this book there is question as to whether or not Potter will turn into a powerful evil wizard as it is revealed that the lightening mark on his forehead is the mark of powerful evil wizads and it is possible that that is the reason that the evil Voldemort tried to kill him as an enfant. Voldemort possibly did’nt want any competion in the bog bad wizard arena. Also in this book everytime someone ticked Potter off they came to a bad end. Also it should be noted that in the first book the sorting hat wanted to put him in Slytherin the dormitory that has turned out the most evil Wizards at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Will most definetly read more of Rowlings books.
Total 2001 Books Completed 9**!!
**Two books were not on the list but midseason pick ups and boy were they good!!!
I adored the Richard Paul Evans book. Look forward to reading more of his stuff. Dean Koontz is always good. This was the first book of his that I read. I normally do the books on tape thing with his stuff. I loved reading the JK Rowling books on the bus on the way home from work after doing overtime. Can’t wait to read the other two books in her Harry Potter series. The dates for the Harry Potter series are questimates as I was not sure if it was kosher to add dates since they were not a part of the original reading list I startedfor 2001. Also I did’nt have room enough to add them to the reading list paper that hangs on my bathroom wall. Besides, I was having to much fun to bother being anal about dates!!! :)
